A Complete Guide To Watching Every ‘Star Wars’ Show And Movie In Chronological Order

AdminNovember 30, 2022

The Star Wars franchise is one of the most popular in the world. And with good reason – the story is compelling, the characters are iconic, and the action is out-of-this-world. But if you’re new to the series (or if you’re a lapsed fan who wants to get back into it), where do you start? With so many movies, tv shows, books, comics, and more, it can be overwhelming to try and figure out the chronological order of the Star Wars universe. Don’t worry – we’re here to help. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through every movie and TV show in the Star Wars franchise in chronological order. So whether you want to watch them all in one marathon session or spread them out over time, you’ll know exactly where to begin.

How Can You Watch Star Wars

If you want to watch all the “Star Wars” movies and shows in chronological order, it’s actually pretty easy. Here’s a complete guide to help you do just that.

Starting with the very first “Star Wars” movie, “A New Hope,” released in 1977, you can work your way through every movie and show up until the most recent release, “The Rise of Skywalker.” In between those two films, there are quite a few other movies and shows to watch, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

If you want to watch everything in release order, then you’ll start with “The Phantom Menace,” which was released in 1999. However, if you want to watch everything in chronological order, then you’ll need to start with the made-for-TV movie “The Clone Wars,” which takes place between episodes II and III of the prequel trilogy.

From there, you can move on to 2005’s “Revenge of the Sith,” followed by 2008’s “The Clone Wars” animated movie. After that, it’s onto 2012’s “The Clone Wars” TV series finale and then back into chronological order with 2014’s “Rebels” TV show.

2015 brings us back to release order with the film “The Force Awakens,” but from there you can watch 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and 2017’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in either release or

Star Wars In The Order Of Release

The release order of the Star Wars movies is as follows: “Episode IV – A New Hope”, “Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back”, “Episode VI – Return of the Jedi”, “Episode I – The Phantom Menace”, “Episode II – Attack of the Clones”, and “Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”.

If you want to watch the Star Wars movies in chronological order, you would start with “Episode I – The Phantom Menace” and then watch each subsequent movie in order. However, if you want to watch the movies in the order they were released, you would start with “Episode IV – A New Hope”.

Many fans believe that watching the movies in release order is the best way to experience the story, as this is how George Lucas intended for them to be seen. Additionally, this approach allows you to appreciate each movie for what it is without being influenced by later installments in the franchise.

The Prequel Trilogy (Episodes I-III)

The first three “Star Wars” movies are collectively known as the prequel trilogy. These movies were released between 1999 and 2005, and tell the story of Anakin Skywalker, who would later become Darth Vader.

“Episode I – The Phantom Menace”

The first movie in the prequel trilogy is “Episode I – The Phantom Menace”. This movie is set 32 years before the original “Star Wars” movie, and introduces Anakin Skywalker as a young boy. We also meet Obi-Wan Kenobi and Queen Amidala for the first time.

“Episode II – Attack of the Clones”

The second movie in the prequel trilogy is “Episode II – Attack of the Clones”. This movie is set 10 years after “Episode I”, and sees Anakin now grown up and training as a Jedi Knight. We also learn more about Obi-Wan’s past, and meet new characters including Count Dooku and Jango Fett.

“Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”

The third and final movie in the prequel trilogy is “Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”. This movie is set 3 years after “Episode II”, and sees Anakin finally succumb to the dark side of the Force. We witness some of Darth Vader’s first atrocities, as well as his fateful duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Original Trilogy (Episodes IV-VI)

The original Star Wars trilogy is, of course, the most important part of the series. These are the films that started it all, and they remain some of the most popular and beloved movies ever made. If you’re watching the series for the first time, or if you just want to revisit these classic films, there’s no better way to do it than in chronological order.

Starting with Episode IV: A New Hope, we are introduced to Luke Skywalker, a young farm boy who dreams of adventure beyond his humble home on Tatooine. When he meets the rebel Princess Leia (and subsequently helps her destroy the evil Empire’s Death Star), Luke’s life is changed forever. In Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, we see Luke begin his training as a Jedi Knight under the guidance of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. But when Darth Vader – a powerful Sith warrior – leads an attack on Luke’s friends, Luke must face him in a duel that will have far-reaching consequences. Finally, in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Luke confronts Darth Vader one last time, while also leading the rebel attack on the new Death Star. Along the way, we learn more about the Force – and come to understand that it binds us all together.

These three films are essential viewing for any fan of science fiction or fantasy. They’re also just plain great movies, with iconic characters, exciting action, and heart-wrenching drama. If you’ve never

The Sequel Trilogy (Episodes VII-IX)

The Sequel Trilogy is the second trilogy of Star Wars movies. It consists of Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. These movies are set thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and follow the adventures of the now adult Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and new characters Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, and BB-8.

The Sequel Trilogy begins with Luke having vanished and Leia leading the Resistance against the First Order. Rey is a scavenger on the planet Jakku who meets Finn, a runaway stormtrooper. They team up with smuggler Han Solo and Chewbacca to find Luke and save the galaxy from the First Order. In The Last Jedi, Luke finally agrees to train Rey as a Jedi Knight while Leia leads the Resistance in a desperate battle against the First Order. Finally in The Rise of Skywalker, all three trilogies come to an end as Rey confronts Kylo Ren while Luke faces Darth Sidious in a final showdown for control of the galaxy.
